Integrate Atono with Slack to seamlessly add team members to channels and keep conversations connected to relevant discussions while working on stories.
Atono's Slack integration lets you connect Slack channels to your teams and stories. With just a few clicks, you can link existing channels or create new ones, automatically adding your team members. From Atono, jump directly to the corresponding channel in Slack, where team and story updates are posted. Links are provided to bring you back to Atono if you need to view more details.
Enable the integration for your workspace
An Administrator must enable the Slack integration for your Atono workspace before you can connect or create Slack channels for teams or stories.
What does Atono post in Slack?
To keep software development less stressful, Atono only posts the most relevant updates to your Slack channels. For detailed information, you can always return to Atono using the provided links.
Here's what Atono posts in your Slack channels:
- When a channel is added or removed from a team in Atono.
- When a member joins or leaves the team in Atono.
- When a channel is connected or disconnected from a story.
- When someone adds or removes a feature flag from a story.
- When a flag is turned ON or OFF for specific environments.
- When slices for a flag are updated.
- When someone renames a feature flag.
Team Slack channels
Linking your Atono team to a Slack channel keeps communication at your fingertips, so everyone stays updated on important discussions and quick check-ins. This connection helps bridge the gap between managing projects in Atono and collaborating in real-time on Slack, so no crucial information slips through the cracks.
Connect a team Slack channel
Connecting a Slack channel to your team in Atono centralizes communication and keeps your team aligned. You can link to an existing channel or create a new one.
Multiple teams can connect to the same Slack channel.
- On the Team overview page, click Connect Slack channel.
- If you haven't connected your Slack account, Atono will prompt you to allow access to your Slack workspace.
- In the Connect Slack channel dialog, click the search box and choose one of the following:
- Select an existing public or private channel from the list or search for another one.
- Create a public channel named after your team, following Slack's format (for example, #best-team-ever for the team 'Best Team Ever' team). Atono will suggest a channel name based on your team name.
- Click Connect Channel.
- In the Add team members to Slack channel dialog, click Add to channel, or click Skip to add them later.
Disconnect a team Slack channel
If you no longer need a Slack channel or want to connect your team to a different one, you can disconnect the channel from your team in Atono.
- On the Team overview page, click the ellipses (...) icon.
- From the menu, select Disconnect Slack channel.
- In the Disconnect Slack channel dialog, confirm by clicking Disconnect channel, or click X to cancel.
Story Slack channels
Linking Slack channels to your stories centralizes discussions and questions, making relevant communication easily accessible within each story.
Connect a Slack channel
Connect a new or existing Slack channel to a story to centralize conversations and questions. The connected Slack channel appears as a link at the top of the story, making it simple to open in Slack. The Slack channel also includes links back to the story in Atono for quick access.
Multiple stories can be connected to the same Slack channel.
- In the story header, click Connect Slack channel.
- If you haven't connected your Slack account, Atono will prompt you to allow access to your Slack workspace.
- In the Connect Slack channel dialog, click the search box and then do one of the following:
- Select an existing public or private channel from the list or search for another one.
- Create a public channel named after your story, following Slack's format (for example, #story -7-login-page-error-handling for the story 'STORY-7 Login Page Error Handling'). Atono will suggest a channel name based on your story name.
- Click Connect Channel.
Disconnect a Slack channel
If you no longer need a Slack channel or want to connect the story to a different channel, you can disconnect the channel in Atono.
- In the story header, click the ellipses (...) icon.
- From the menu, select Disconnect Slack channel.
- In the Disconnect Slack channel dialog, confirm by clicking Disconnect channel, or click X to cancel.
Connect to Slack (users)
Once Slack is enabled for your workspace, you can connect your Slack account from your User profile or Home page in Atono. You must connect to Slack before adding Slack channels to teams or stories. If you haven't connected yet, Atono will prompt you when performing these tasks.
Only connected users will have the option to automatically join their teams' Slack channels when connected in Atono. Non-connected users can still join channels from their Slack workspace or by clicking a channel link in their Team overview or a story in Atono.
- You can connect to Slack from your User profile or Home page:
- User profile: Click your initials in the top right corner of the Atono web interface, and then click User profile.
- Home page: Click Home in the side panel.
- In the Slack pane, click Connect.
- Follow the instructions to enter your Slack workspace URL or select your workspace.
- Review the permissions Atono requires in your Slack workspace, then click Allow.
- In the Join team Slack channels dialog, click Join channels to add yourself to any Slack channels connected to your teams, or click Skip to join later.
Integrate Slack with your workspace (Administrators)
Only workspace Administrators can enable or disable the Slack integration for a workspace.
Enable the Slack integration
An Administrator must enable Slack integration for the Atono workspace before users can connect their accounts to Slack.
- In the Atono workspace header, click your workspace name and select Settings.
- Under Integrations, click Enable for the Slack integration.
- Follow the instructions to enter your Slack workspace URL or select your workspace.
- Review the permissions Atono requires in your Slack workspace, then click Allow.
Disable the Slack integration
- In the Atono workspace header, click your workspace name and select Settings.
- Under Integrations, click Disable for the Slack integration.
- In the Remove Slack integration dialog, confirm by clicking Remove Slack, or click X to cancel.
If the Slack integration is disabled, users won't be able to interact with Atono through Slack. If re-enabled, users will need to reconnect their Slack accounts in Atono and reconnect their team channels.
